Veneer saw version 2

the new version of the saw has an adjustable table angle (up to about 24 degrees) in order to cut two veneers at the same time, so the top one will fit into the bottom one.

here is a first attempt to cut some veneer, a light one on the top (which is the base) and the darker one (walnut) underneath, which is to glue into the lighter wood.

as you can see, it did not work very well. Both the top as well as the bottom pieces broke, and the line was quite difficult to follow because one needs to guide the veneer with one's left hand while the right hand moves the blade up and down. There is also a little play back-to-front due to the loose fit of the parallel bars to the pivot screws. While it must only be about 1/1000" at the screws it becomes more of an issue at the blade.

There is also some play side-to-side because the blade has no retention mechanism to stop it from moving in this way.

You can see below the broken pieces. This surprised me, as I had not read about this problem.

The saw too has a short throat which stops you from turning the veneer as you cut a piece. This means that it would only be good for small pieces up to 5" wide.
